Who can get an Ontario Security Guard Licence?

How do I apply for an Ontario Security Guard Licence?

  • Once you have the above parameters met the best way to apply is online through ServiceOntario
  • If you apply online, you can check on the status of your application online within 2 business days.
  • When your application is approved, if you applied online you will also be able to access a printable digital licence which can be used as proof of licence until you get your card in the mail.

How long is the training?

The training will take approximately 40 hours of course work to complete. You can take your course either online or in class. In class settings must be completed in one week sessions which are available at accredited training schools.  GuardAcademyOntario.com is a licensed agency (#49 on the list of accredited training schools).

 

Does Online Your Online Training include Emergency Level First Aid?

No, as Emergency Level First Aid Training is an in-person course your certifcation must be obtained from a 3rd party provider. The standard as set by the Ministry is St. John's Ambulance and you can register for it here.

 

How long does it take for my licence to be processed?

If your application is filled out correctly it can take up to 4 weeks for your application to be processed. Check out this link for tips on submitting a Complete Individual Licence Application.

 

Does my licence ever expire?

Yes, your licence if not renewed will expire 2 birthdays after the date it is issued.

 

Does the cost of your training include the exam fee and the licencing fee?

No, the cost of the Exam is $60 plus 13% HST for a total of $67.80 which is payable at the time of booking at www.OntarioSecurityTesting.com.  The licencing fee is $80 for a security guard licence. Apply here.

 

I have a Criminal Record what should I do?

You should check the following site (Offences under the Criminal Code) to see if your record falls within the list of offences that will preclude you from obtaining a licence. If you are still not sure, you should call ServiceOntario at:

Is GuardAcademyOntario.com accredited to provide the basic security guard training?

Yes, we are affiliated with Canada Risk Solution Inc. a registered Licensed Agency with the Ontario Ministry.

 

How long is the course and how much time do I have to complete the course?

The course is designed to take approximately 40 hours to complete. You can login to the course at anytime you wish 24/7 to complete your studies. Most people take about 30 days to complete the course. But you can take as much time as you need to complete.

 

I'm finished the course what happens next?

When you are finished the course you can download a copy of your certificate and transcript from your personal profile. You will also be emailed a consent form that must be completed, signed and returned to us at admin@GuardAcademyOntario.com once received we will obtain your course completion number which will allow you to book your exam at www.OntarioSecurityTesting.com

 

Do you guarantee a job once we finish the course?

No. Having said this, the security industry is always changing and jobs are readily available. Please see below for links to security job positions available.

 

I already have a license can I get a license in another Province?

Yes, if you have a valid Ontario Security Guard License you should be able to obtain a license in any Province in Canada contact the Provincial Ministry to apply.
